As a voluntary member of the Michigan High School Athletic Association, Coloma Schools follows all regulations of the MHSAA Handbook.
Eligibility for students in grades 10-12 to participate during any nine week grading period will be to pass three of four classes for the nine weeks or semester. Ninth graders must earn four credits from the 8th grade to be eligible for athletics for the first nine weeks of the ninth grade. The 1.7 grade point average will only apply to ninth graders starting at the end of the 1st 9 weeks. Ninth graders must have passed five of six classes for the 9 weeks or semester to be eligible.
Eligibility for student participation in extracurricular activities at the 7th & 8th grade levels will be a 1.5 grade point average and passing 5 classes.
If a student is ineligible due to a nine week marking period performance, they must serve a three week probation period at the start of the next quarter. If they meet eligibility requirements at that point, they may begin participation in contests after sitting out 25% of the scheduled events (they would be practicing during the probation period). They must meet all MHSAA eligibility requirements and maintain school eligibility requirements in order to continue participation. Failing two classes during any one week period of probation quarter will require removal from the team.
To continue current eligibility to participate, students must not be failing more than one subject per week as determined by a cumulative average grade in the subject from the beginning of the marking period.
Participation in practice is left to the discretion of the individual coach under the following restriction: Any athlete who appears on three weekly eligibility lists (failed two or more classes) during the season will be removed from that team for the remainder of the season.
