Comet Bands

Director Coloma's band program is organized under the direction of Mrs. Cheryl Thomas. Mrs. Thomas is a graduate of Western Michigan University and is in her fourth year as the Coloma band director. Mrs. Thomas plays professionally in the Lake Effect Jazz Band in St. Joseph and the SMC Brass Band in Dowagiac. She has transferred much of her enthusiasm for music to her students.Mrs. Thomas directs all band groups, the high school band, the 7th & 8th grade bands, the 6th grade band, and the 5th grade band.

Festivals Band festivals are important events for the students. Participating bands are rated by a panel of judges in three categories as they play music they have practiced. Then the band is required to play pieces that are unfamiliar to them. Bands earn a numeric rating from 1 to 5 where 1 is the best. You are invited and encouraged to attend band events to support our students and to enjoy the music.
