Dear Parent/Guardian:
The use of cell phones, compact disc players, MP3 players, and digital cameras during school hours by students is becoming a rather large disruption to the education process. With this letter, I am reminding you that these items are not to be used during normal school hours, which for the junior high, is 7:10 A.M to 2:34 P.M.
If your student carries items of this nature to school, they are to be kept in the student’s locker and off until the end of the regular school day. According to school board policy, if a staff member sees or hears an electronic device, it “shall be confiscated and the student’s parent(s)/guardian(s) shall be notified. If the device is not suspected of being stolen, it shall be returned to the parent(s)/guardian(s).” This means that if your student’s electronic device is confiscated, a member of my staff will try to contact you to let you know that you may pick the item up in our main office between the hours of 7:10 A.M and 3:00 P.M., on normal school days. Only a parent or guardian may retrieve the device. In the event that the device is not picked up, it will be returned to the student at the end of the school year. Please take note that repeat offenders of this policy will be suspended from school.
It is my desire that your student receive the best education possible while a student in my building, so I am asking for your help in controlling this issue. Please take all steps necessary to ensure that your student is in compliance with this policy so that all students may enjoy a distraction free learning environment.
Sincerely,
Peter V. Olsen
Principal
