WeatherBug Weather Station

Three Coloma teachers, Mr. Matt Severin, Mr. Randy Kniebes, and Mrs. Sara Glisson joined efforts to acquire funds for a Weatherbug station. The trio obtained money from three sources; The Lowe’s Toolbox Grant ($4490) and the Pioneer Grant ($2000) provided the funds to purchase the weather station. The Paw Paw Lake Foundation provided $700 to help pay installation costs. This has truly been a team effort to bring technology to our school district. The data may be accessed by teachers and students at all grade levels to enhance science, math, geography, and technology education classes.

Educators in Coloma are hopeful that this state-of-the-art technology will serve as a tool to improve skills such as data collection and interpretation, analytical skills, graphing, and problem solving. This is an opportunity for students to make a connection to the “real world” when developing skills in the classroom. It should also serve as a source of pride when students hear their school used in daily weather forecasts.

The WeatherBug weather station includes a rain gauge, anemometer, thermometer, wind vane, and barometer which have been installed on the roof of the North Building at Coloma Middle School. The station constantly collects weather-related data and transmits that data to the web site linked at the top of this page.
