Dear Coloma families,

Thank you for choosing Coloma Community Schools for your children’s education. The 2024-25 academic year promises to be full of students achieving and succeeding in and out of the classroom with the support of our incredible team of teachers and staff members. Whether your child is on the bus, in the lunchroom or classroom, our team prioritizes student growth, safety, and fun with the goal of helping them love to learn. I’m grateful for the opportunity to partner with you to bring the best education opportunities to your child.

This is my 24th year at Coloma Community Schools and seventh as superintendent. I’ve been fortunate to serve as a math teacher and assistant principal at Coloma Junior High, as well as principal at Coloma High School. I’ve also coached baseball, softball, and football. In that time, I’ve worked with some of the best educators in the business and have witnessed thousands of students complete their schooling. One of the best things about being superintendent is knowing that each year students will follow a learning journey that leads to greater confidence and bigger dreams.

For those that don’t know, I am originally from a small town in southern Illinois. After graduating from Trico High School, I spent eight years as a member of the United States Army, where I served in the 101st Airborne Division at Ft. Campbell in Kentucky as a member of the Screaming Eagles.  While in the 101st, I was deployed to the Persian Gulf region during Operation Desert Shield/Storm. After being discharged, my wife and I moved to Fremont, Michigan, where I graduated from Muskegon Community College and then Ferris State University. I also earned my master’s degree from Western Michigan University. I have been at Coloma Community Schools since 2001 and have cherished every moment of it. Both of my daughters graduated from Coloma High School, and this year my grandchild will be starting kindergarten at Coloma Elementary.

It’s an exciting time to be a Comet! We offer programs at each of our schools to help our students with self-discovery and community building, from career and technical education, advanced placement, and National Honor Society to student council, athletics, and language. I cannot wait to see how your child thrives this year.

Whether you are new or returning to our district, thank you for your trust and collaboration. If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me at [email protected] or 269-468-2424 and I will get back to you within 24 hours.

Sincerely,

Dave Ehlers

Superintendent
